Cymbopogon flexuosus (Poaceae): also known as Nibu ghas, Malabar grass; values for its essential oil obtained from leaves; perennial herbaceous grass (3-4 feet long); grows in warm humid climate under a variety of soils; planting is generally done with slips in February-March/June-July of October; aerial parts ready for harvest after every four months; aerial parts used for distillation of essential oil; oil contains citral, linalool, geraniol, citronellol and used in soaps, detergents, perfumery and synthesis of vitamin A; Improved varieties developed by CIMAP : Krishna, Nima, Praman, Chirharit.
